When everything was read, the Lord said to noah, "Go into the boat with all your family, for among all the people of the earth, I can see that you alone are righteous." Genesis 7:1
Have you ever stopped to think about Noah's wife? Her name isn't mentioned in the Bible and up until this week, I hadn't given her much thought at all.
If Noah and his family were the only righteous people on the earth, they must have lived in a really rough area. Life couldn't have been easy for Mrs. Noah.
She stood by her husband through the public ridicule of building a boat. She held her family together in the rough cirucumstances. And in spite of the environment, she raised three sons who loved God.
Have you ever thought about all the work that went into preparing to pack the ark? I know having moved so many times ourselves, what a huge job that is. Can you imagine having to help build the ark and
make the food and pack the food they would need for the journey?
She must have helped to organize and manage the animals in the ark and cleaning the boat. Even when the rain stopped and the land dried up, there was still more work to do.
Yet she did it and as far as we know without complaining.
And trhough it all, she continued to stand by her husband and trust in God's promises.
Her confidence in God is amazing! With complete trust in his plan, she climbed on the ark and watched as her entire world literally washed away.
When they got off the ark, everything had been wiped off the face of the earth.
But through all the changes,
she knew that God was with her and she found the courage to face it all.
I have found a lot of encouragement in her story this week.
We've all faced situations that threated to flood our lives.
But we can have confidence in God that he will help us weather the storm.
Part of facing the unknown requires "dropping an anchor of faith into the depths of God's sovereignty."
Noah's wife showed us that we can stand through the storms of life as courageous and capable women.
We may have to work hard to reach our goals and we will have to trust God over every wave that comes our way and threatens to destroy everything we have.
Her story also confirms that God never fails to carry us to a place of healing and opportunity.
We may not always understand why things are happening, but we can rest in the faith that God sees the finished picture and all things work together for His good.
My prayer this week is that my eyes will remain fixed on God and the world to come and that even though there are clouds overhead right now, I'll remember God's promise of rainbows on the horizon.
